Who We Are

Hands-On Development Initiatives International is a not-for-profit society registered in both Canada and Kenya.

It has given leadership to students, interns and professionals working in development initiatives in Kenya since 2004. It continues to liaison with universities and professionals in offering group projects and programs, and on an individual basis, facilitating volunteer and internship opportunities.

In Muhanda, western Kenya, H.O.D.I. provides community leadership in field research and needs assessment, and works with leaders in project design, implementation and management.

As advocates for the people of Muhanda, H.O.D.I. raises funds and sources needed skills and materials for its various community projects.

Our Values

* Compassion and generosity.

* Justice, equality, and social responsibility.

* Integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Stewardship of material and financial resources, of the environment, and of human capital.

What Makes Us Unique

Our work proceeds out of relationships of trust. Through listening and interacting over time, we are able to identify and prioritize community needs and bring relevant expertise and resources to the need at hand.

H.O.D.I. brings together a unique mix of academic, civic, business and governmental partners, in Kenya and Canada. We aim to be relevant. Our work begins with field research, and continues with on-going assessment.

We value a hands-on approach that envisions new initiatives characterized by relevance, collaboration, feasibility, and good management.

Completed projects in either sphere of economic or social development, become models of good stewardship, empowerment, transparency, and sustainability.
