Education Project

H.O.D.I. provides full scholarships for selected students graduating from primary school. Students who demonstrate academic excellence, but are economically impoverished, are eligible to receive full scholarship for a four-year high school program. Since 2009, 24 scholarships have been awarded. In 2012 the first 4 students in the program will be graduating from high school.

 Community & Resource Centre

The community identified vulnerable and orphaned children. In collaboration with the Mawazo Women's Group, H.O.D.I. is providing care and support to these vulnerable families.

H.O.D.I. received a grant from International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Canada to build phase one of this Centre, which is providing pre-school education and a lunch program, allowing over 120 children to return to their primary caregivers at the end of the day.
Tailoring School

The tailoring school also operates out of the Community Centre, weekdays in the afternoon. Both young men and women are learning the basics of sewing. The most recent project involves making re-usable hygienic pads. This project addresses the needs of girls, reducing absenteeism in school and eventually becoming income-generating.
